BestStart Hei Hei Road  

BestStart HeiHei (formerly ABC Hei Hei) is a high quality early learning centre in Hornby, providing exception care and education for children from 3 months to 5 years old. We support parents/whanau in their parenting journey, working with and alongside them as their child grows and develops, especially taking time to celebrate each and every mile stone along the way.

Our learning spaces - We offer four fantastic rooms for children to explore, learn and play. Our classrooms offer rich learning experiences for children to develop skills at their own pace while being supported by a well-established, passionate and professional, teaching team. We also have a wonderful outdoor area which provides many experiences, challenges and wonders. We are very proud of our secret garden, where children work alongside teachers to establish a beautiful garden of vegetables and flowers. Our climbing equipment helps children to develop the gross motor skills, balancing and hand-eye coordination. We also have a number of centre pets which the children help to care for.

Tui and Kiwi Rooms - Our lovely Tui and Kiwi Rooms offer children under the age of 2 a safe and nurturing nursery environment. Primary care is provided for the children in this room, with the child deciding which teacher they would like to choose for this rewarding job. Alongside our curriculum which promotes discovery, confidence, language and social skills, children also have access to our beautiful outside area which is separate from the older children, so they can confidently explore. We also have a separate infant play area, both inside and outside. We are very proud of our sleep area, where by we offer children their own individual cot and for infants a beautiful bassinette.  This sleep room is set up, so it is like being at home and children can have a restful sleep while here at ABC Hei Hei.

Kea and Kakapo Rooms - The Kea Room is set up for our busy toddlers from ages 2–to 3.5 years old. This is a fantastic place for the children to build relationships with their peers by engaging in play and generally having a good time. Our teachers work with the children’s interests and extend on these by providing resources and activities that encourage persistence and growth in all the children.  We also have a lovely sleep room for busy toddlers so they can slow down, have a rest and recharge themselves ready for a busy afternoon. The Kakapo Room is for our energetic 3.5 to 5 year olds.  The Kakapo Room is a place where all children are encouraged to take part in activities that are of interest to them and they are given the opportunity to experiment with ideas, ways of thinking and doing things. We also empower children to develop those all-important self-help skills, ready for that next part of their learning journey which is school.  Along with this our unique Be School Ready initiative helps the children develop the skills needed for the transition from preschool to school. Both the Kea and Kakapo Rooms have access to a beautiful outside play area where they can continue to explore and develop new skills in a safe and wonderfully resourced area.
