Expectations for children’s behaviour are well established and adult’s positive guidance fosters children’s social and emotional competence. There is strong emphasis on developing self management skills, also children are self motivated learners and empowered by teachers to make choices.
The team at BestStart Arrowtown understand the importance of Early Childhood Education (ECE) and are all focused on providing the best care and education inspired by the Montessori philosophy and Te Whariki, our early childhood curriculum.
It is important for us to make families and whanau feel welcome respected and comfortable. We’d love you and your family to join us.
What makes us different:
- Weekly Adventurers Group - Our Adventurers regularly get out into our local community - children are given time to experience the wonders of life, to listen, to smell, to observe, to touch and to taste, to be outdoors and connect with the Earth, acknowledging they too play a part in the circle of life. Children are encouraged to be active explorers and go on adventures further developing their understanding of their local community and their world. This provides many opportunities for the children to explore freely, increasing their confidence, emotional competence, physical and social development.
- On your Marks active movement - Our teachers have trained with Sports Otago and run fundamental movement skill classes as part of our weekly programme.
- Baking and cooking with what we harvest from our gardens and fruit trees
- Throughout our centre we make links to Te Whariki, the NZ Early Childhood Curriculum, our Be School Ready initiative and Tataiako, cultural competence for teachers of Maori learners
ERO Rating: Not well placed/Kāhore i te pai te tūnga.
