BestStart Clarence Street  

BestStart Clarence Street (formerly First Steps Clarence Street) is a beautifully converted villa situated in central Hamilton. There is a warm home like feel when you walk through our doors meaning your child feels safe and secure in their learning environment.

We provide care and education for children aged three months to five years and offer a range of booking hours to suit your families needs.

Nursery -  Our Nursery Room welcomes children aged 3 months to 2 years old and we offer a variety of programs. We aim to make our teaching very intentional, linking in to parent’s aspirations, children’s interests and their individual plan.

Our programme offers a variety of messy play and music and movement on a daily basis. This can vary from water play, play dough, paint, gloop and shaving cream to gardening and much more. We dance and sing often, both in English and in Te Reo Maori. 
During these first few years, the development of the senses is important and we give our tamariki as many opportunities as possible to develop all five. 
There are opportunities for climbing, balancing etc. and ball games for the development of eye-hand coordination and fine and gross motor skills. 
More than anything, we enjoy close relationships with our tamariki and parents/whanau and have a whole lot of fun on a daily basis. 

Preschool - In Preschool, we extend your child as they move towards becoming school ready. We’ll collaborate with you to develop goals your child can work towards. We offer a wide range of experiences that follow their current interests. We see your child as the leader of their learning and look to them to share their knowledge with their peers and teachers alike. Your child will be encouraged to investigate their interests to gain a more in-depth understanding. They will also be given opportunities to discover new interests and further their knowledge through basic literacy and numeracy concepts.

Our Be School Ready initiative provide your child with the tools to transition to school comfortably. Your child will move onto their next learning journey as a confident and capable, lifelong learner and we believe this starts as soon as possible.

At BestStart Clarence Street we enjoy excursions around our immediate environment, and day trips away with help from our parents.

The children’s meals are made every day by our talented cook. We take great pride in serving food to the children that is nutritional and fuel for learning that will sustain them throughout the day.
